Vzense 3D Time-of-Flight Camera Aids Mobile Robot Application
There are several things to keep in mind when designing or building a self-guided machine. Being able to judge distance, recognize obstacles, decipher shape and position are just the beginning when trying to accurately allow a robotic device to move. Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs) or Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) are what the industry uses to pick up extremely heavy objects, or work in very fine locations to precisely shape an object. To do these tasks, cameras are used and images are captured to create machine images to help guide the AGV or AMR and accurately maneuver around its environment.

Several cameras and sensors must work in unison to allow for AGVs/AMRs to consistently and dependably detect the environment around them. Due to the precise and somewhat dangerous nature of the tasks required of AGVs/AMRs they must be built with a long life in mind as well as durable to withstand most tasks required of them.

The DCAM550 series of Vzense’s 3D ToF depth cameras were developed with the logistics sector in mind. AGVs/AMRs with our ToF cameras capture a full view of the environment in real time. It is functional regardless of the light quality and can be captured with or without daylight. This allows for the traditional manual operations to be eliminated, such as time-delays, errors and any dangerous situation is more easily avoided.
